care-eyes - 1.15MB (Freeware)
Despite what the somewhat grammatically un-catchy title might suggest, CareUEyes is actually a nice little program designed to appeal to people who spend large parts of their lives sitting in front of computer screens.
The two main features of CareUEyes are the automatic blue light filter and a reminder to rest and take a break every once in a while. The combination of these two functions may help reduce eye strain caused by extended and prolonged use of computers. Put basically, it’s not a good idea to sit for hour after hour in front of a computer without any breaks, and this is where CareUEyes really stands out.
CareUEyes is only a small download but could have a large impact on your health.
The blue light filter and screen dimmer features work quite well, and changes automatically depending on the time. It works by gently adjusting the gamma value of your display, reducing the blue light part of the RGB spectrum. This makes your screen visibly dim as day turns to night and lessens the glare of your computer screen, helping you and your eyes to work longer.
By the same token, the Rest feature makes you take a default 3-minute break every 45 minutes, reminding you 30 seconds before the time is up and locking your screen, so you have to take a break. The break can be ‘snoozed’ for five minutes up to 3 times if you don’t want to break your train of thought.
One of the best features of CareUEyes however are the array of options. You can change the default break times with ease, choosing a default working time, and the length of time you want each break to last. By the same token, the blue light filter has five separate modes and color temperatures to choose from depending on the environmental settings you choose.
